The Gift That Keeps on Giving...What is an Endowment?
We have over 12 Houston Aggie Moms' Club Endowments that previous Houston Aggie Moms created and fully funded! These endowments provide over $30k in scholarships every year!
We will be presenting the results of our Funding Distribution for Scholarships and Support for TAMU Organizations at our May 21st meeting. But before we go over those numbers we wanted to give you an idea of what endowments are and what they do.
The Texas A&M University System boasts one of the largest endowments in the U.S., valued at over $19 billion to $20 billion, providing perpetual funding for scholarships, faculty chairs, and programs. Managed by the Texas A&M Foundation and UTIMCO, these funds are invested in a diverse Long-Term Investment Pool (LTIP) to ensure long-term growth and steady annual payouts.
Key Aspects of the Texas A&M Endowment:
    • Purpose & Function: Endowments are self-sustaining funds where the principal is invested, and a portion of the returns is distributed annually to support university operations, primarily student scholarships and faculty support.
    • Management & Investment: The Texas A&M Foundation manages these funds, focusing on a "long-term investment pool" that leverages diverse asset classes to maximize returns and withstand various market conditions.
  • Types of Endowments:
    • Endowed Scholarships: Typically require a minimum gift of $25,000, which can be funded over five years.
    • Faculty Chairs/Professorships: Generally require minimums of $1,000,000 or more depending on the college.
    • Fellowships: Often start at $150,000 to support graduate research.
  • Payout Policy: The foundation currently distributes 4% of the LTIP's average unit value to the university, with an additional 1.25% covering operational costs.
  • Reporting: The Office of Finance provides disclosures, including endowment account reporting, legislative reports, and compliance monitoring.

Membership Renewal
It's almost that time of year!  Please check your membership expiration date with this link:

If your membership expires on May 31, our membership drive starts June 1 so please renew for another year, or even 4 years! If your Aggie has graduated (Yay!), please renew and join our Ring of Honor (ROH) group (no additional cost) and add extra social activities throughout the year just for ROH members!

MEMBERSHIP NOTES:

1. Please do no opt out of the directory when you submit your renewal. Our membership list is not for solicitation use and is for members use only. If you opt out, new friends cannot find you!

2. Please do NOT delete your students when they graduate. Our MTK system is used by many PTAs, so this option is in the system. Unlike PTAs, Houston Aggie Moms still wants to know about your Aggies! Once an Aggie Mom, Always an Aggie Mom - even after your Aggie is a Former Student!

3. If you have a Former Student, please also complete the ROH membership. ROH Members may still have a current student as well as a former student.

Volunteer Spotlights

Kathy Roth Choate‘s Aggie Mom career includes boutique vice president parliamentarian, president-elect, president, past-president and Ring of Honor Co-Chair (pictured above in the middle).

Kathy’s passion for education took root early in her career working in inner city school districts, feeding children and educating them about nutrition. A proud Nebraska Cornhusker at heart, Kathy was initially dismayed when her children did not follow suit. However, she and her husband, Bob, have since fully embraced the Aggie culture. Their son Rob ‘20 and daughter-in-law Alyssa are parents to her first  grandchild (of hopefully many). Daughter Haley and son-in-law Ethan are also hoping to add children to their family of dogs, ducks, chickens, and cows with extra length horns. Kathy is determined to inspire all her future grandchildren to “bleed maroon,” ensuring the tradition continues and their moms can experience the joy of being an Aggie Mom as much as she has.

Iram Ahmed joined Aggie Moms in 2022 after her son, Zane, matriculated at Texas A&M University to study electrical engineering. Although she is not an Aggie herself, she quickly became an enthusiastic supporter and fan of all things Aggie—just like her son.

Her growing connection to the university inspired her to volunteer and support Texas A&M students.

A Certified Public Accountant (CPA) with extensive management experience in both the oil and gas industry at ExxonMobil and in government with the City of Houston, Iram brings strong organizational skills and professional expertise to Aggie Moms. Her background has enabled her to make meaningful contributions to the organization, and she has served on the board as Corresponding Secretary since 2025–2026.

Outside of her volunteer work, Iram enjoys gardening, traveling, and staying active. She is an avid pickleball player and is always eager to step onto the court for a game. Iram is proud to support Texas A&M and its students through her involvement with Aggie Moms.
